new tide tables to print

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We’ve just finalized the 2101 plymouth area tide tables for our client Weir Quay Boatyard.  As last year, another well known artist has been commissioned to paint the cover. Watercolourist, Rob Dudley has produced a sparkly scene from the quay and we’ve wrapped it around the back.  Ian Heard’s chart of the Tamar features centre spread once more, a useful aid for navigators.

We’re also completing the designs for another project from the same client. Big Noise is a schools event here in Tavistock featuring a massed choir and jazz legend, Mike Westbrook’s Glad day, based on the works of William Blake.  I once confessed to being a Blues player to Mike, who kindly suggested that’s where it all started.  There will be more on this subject to come.

Stuart Thorn New print

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

We had great day with designer and painter Stuart Thorn last week.  We’ve scanned one of his abstact compositions for a very big giclée on canvas.  We’ve known Stu’ for years, all my life in fact, but he still manages to inspire and lead by example.  His paintings are born in nature but worked up into atmospheric and graphic shapes and spaces. I love ‘em,  and look forward to seeing what’s next.  The image below is small but think of it 120cm across. It’s almost like being on the beach.ST1

networking twitter night out

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Good morning everyone who attended the social networking event in Ivybridge last night. Especially – on the design table – Louise and Zac, Ash, and Pete, the guitarist, who I’m sure will to grips with twitter etc in no time.  Thanks to the guys at Business Link and to David Thomas who was an inspiring presenter.  All very thought provoking and informative and look, here I am and Dave has been on line for an hour.  Brilliant.  For those I lectured on scanners etc, here’s that ‘SCAN’ of my strat.  The original file is life size and much reduced here but, hey, it’s not a photograph. Stay tuned.

Full sized Fender Statocaster, scanned on our Phase One FX and Photoshoped into a comp.

current reprints

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Just had “Cow lady” Nicky Harwood in to pick up a reprint of “Amber”, one of her glorious cow paintings.  Nicky is well known and sells well across the UK and (I think) Ireland.

Another edition just started is for portrait painter, Mic Chambers.  We’re doing 2 portraits of his muse, both lovely pieces, very brushy and thoughtful.  He has done a stunning portrait of author, Mary Wesley, completed just before she died.  I keep saying it deserves to be seen as it woould win Mic many important commissions. I look forward to doing more.

John Ashton has re-ordered his Modbury Heads, a popular hounds study and something he’s well known for.  I’ve also just scanned and printed some lovely new images of his.  This time egrets, and another swan piece.  Very atmospheric water paintings and I guarantee they will prove popular with his collectors.  There’ll be exciting news about a collaboration with John if it comes off.  Stay tuned.
