New piece by David Scott

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

One of our longest standing artists, David Scott, has recently completed a stunning painting following one of his frequent trips to Africa.  This is a 5′ square portrait of an adult Elephant.  See for yourself.  Stunning.

On the studio front, we’re about to start artwork for the third history book in the Folens series titled “You’re history”  If you’ve seen my contact illustrators page, you’ll have seen some of my historical stuff there.  Also updating press advertising for graphics client, Kivells – estate agents, and looking at a new client whose approached us this week.  Keeps the wolf from the door… we hope.

NEW SCANNER INSTALLED

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

This is a shortened version of a recent promo for our new scanner.  We are now able to scan much larger paintings and images that is currently available in our neck of the woods.  The blurb explains and more caban be found on the www.farawayislands.co.uk link.  Suffice to say I’m looking to feed the beast.

Fine art imaging and giclée print in the heart of Devon

Over the last ten years, Faraway Island Giclée has become one of the south west’s best known fine art giclée print specialists.  Originally formed by designer’s Ian and Eve Heard to print their own work, they discovered that artists in Devon and Cornwall needed a dedicated, one-to-one service where they could talk to some one who understood colour, paint and print.

Large format Scanning

Recently they have delved deeper into the more specialised field of high resolution image scanning with the aquisition of a Phase One FX 5×4

scanner.  This technology is rare in the region and gives them the facility to scan original paintings and drawings much larger than has been previously possible, and heavy impastos and pastels can be scanned more successfully. Until now artists have been restricted to film copy, medium format capture or scanning, both usually to A3.  The Phase One can scan up to 360Mb in one take. In camera terms, it has a memory capacity of 135 megapixels. This means that artists can copy their work even at over a metre across.  Along with their 24” and 44” printers, Faraway Island Giclée can offer a bespoke imaging, proofing and fine art print service to all artists and galleries.
