New artist and current reprints

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

We met Birmingham artist Beryl Evans this week.  She had two charming oil paintings of harbour scenes in Cornwall which were on their way to a gallery. Late night scan and proof and off they went.  She called next day to order two off each as canvas giclées. She showed me her folio of other paintings including some very good portraits.

CELIA LISTER

Delivered reprints for calligrapher Celia Lister this weekend.  Her A3 giclée of Desiderata is a beautiful piece of lettering and this is (I think) the third reprint for her.

ANDREW ELLIS

No surprise, Andrew Ellis has just ordered reprints of the lovely painting “My girl”.  He quickly sold all the prints delivered last week!

NEW ANDREW ELLIS PRINTS – 15.6

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

One of our favorite artists, renown wildlife painter, Andrew Ellis spent some time with us today discussing his reprints and three new editions for us to produce. We’ve worked with Andrew since day-one but he constantly amazes us with his talent. He’s asked us to produce an open edition based on a painting of a Harris hawk, and a new canvas premier print as a very limited number. We’re printing reprints for a falconry event in early July.

New scanner ordered

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Big news for Faraway Island Giclée customers.  We’ve seen a new scan system demonstrated this week and have ours on order.  This will make us (“probably”) one of the best fine art repro studios in the south west.  The system based on the Phaseone FX1 5×4 has the potential to scan really big paintings etc. to over 350MB at high resolution. We’re very impressed with the results and coupled with our 44″ giclée printers, we think we’ll be able to offer the some of the best in fine art print reproduction anywhere in the region.  Stay tuned for updates but as soon as we’re operational we’ll be shouting about it.

OTHER NEWS THIS WEEK.

I have new Illustration work on-line at contact Illustrators 25.  This industry bible is in it’s 25th year of publication and we thought it about time we got on board.  The easy to navigate site is also easy to update so I’ll be posting new artwork samples on a regular basis.  See some from a current project below.

Studio 8th June RSPB and updates

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Our work for the RSPB nears completion this week.  I’ve illustrated the factsheets for the world wide Save the Albatross Campaign.  A worthwhile piece of work and really nice and dedicated people, who are in the Southern Ocean as we speak.  My art work was mainly fishing scenes, trawlers etc but knowing it’s for such a great cause is very satisfying.  Good luck out there, Andy.

On the subject of birds, we’re also involved in printing some big panels for one of our clients, featuring barn owls. Spooky as there is one who lives nearby and swoops the gardens at night.  Makes the bats sound comparatively noisy, on his silent wings.

DRAWN TO THE VALLEY

The DTTV directory is almost complete, final proofs this week and off to print.  Artists/members are encouraged to proof their own pages on line. Follow the links.

New paintings at Delamore

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Delamore Gallery, Cornwood, Devon is hosting a PV on June 6th to mark the start of their summer 09 exhibition entitled “Washed up 09″  I’ve been asked to submit a few bits and bobs and have 4 new paintings on show there. These images first went public at the NEC with Boteler Conremporary Arts, but these are the originals.  Let’s see how it goes.

I have 3 more at Gallerie Marin in Appledore.  Audrey Hinks asked to see some new pieces and though one was unfinished, she took a liking.

NEW BOOK OUT THIS MONTH

Big news – I have an advanced copy of my new book, ‘Cornish Ports and Harbours’.  It features 30 big pieces and lots of fillers as well as my flowing prose.  Publisher is pleased and we hope for great sales and spin offs.  Fingers crossed.  I’ll see if I can sort out uploading a pic or two.  Stay tuned.
